PUMA and Freight Audit: FOREVER. FASTER.

PUMA is one of the world’s leading sports brands, designing, developing, selling and marketing footwear, apparel and accessories. For more than 75 years, PUMA has relentlessly pushed sport and culture forward by creating fast products for the world’s fastest athletes. The company distributes its products in more than 120 countries, employs about 20,000 people worldwide, and is headquartered in Herzogenaurach, Germany.

We spoke to Peter Stockhammer, Head of Global Logistics Procurement at PUMA, about PUMA’s decision to implement Transporeon Freight Audit. Responsible for Global Logistics Procurement including all logistics categories from transportation at origin, to the moment the product reaches the customer, Peter’s global remit covers 30+ countries and involves multiple stakeholders and forwarders.

Checking invoices is at the core of the solution, but there are so many things you can do with the data you generate. It requires a fair amount of effort to get up and running, but once you have it, you never want to do without it.

Challenges

PUMA was looking for solutions to streamline processes and eliminate manual tasks, such as invoice checks, to free up resources and support colleagues in the finance department.

Implementing change is always met with some resistance. Find out why PUMA chose Transporeon, and how they gained trust from key stakeholders who questioned whether Freight Audit was ‘too good to be true’.

Solution

PUMA had a strict set of requirements in search for an audit solution that didn’t force them into a specific procurement pattern from a structural viewpoint. The choice was obvious: Transporeon offers the level of flexibility PUMA was looking for, and the ability to customise processes to any individual customer’s needs.

Freight Audit communicates with PUMA systems in four defined steps. It's been more than two years now since this pilot went live, and it continues to run very successfully. PUMA will roll out Freight Audit across all the countries where they do business and have transportation; the full implementation roadmap also incorporates North America and APAC, and includes plans to extend everything PUMA procures, including outbound parcels and envelopes.
