Bekaert saves 40% on freight costs with Transporeon Time Slot Management
About Bekaert
Founded in 1880, with its headquarters in Belgium, Bekaert is a global market and technology leader in steel wire transformation and coating technologies, Bekaert also applies its expertise beyond steel to create new solutions with innovative materials and services for markets including new mobility, low-carbon construction and green energy.
The challenge
In the past, each of Bekaert’s US plants were responsible for its own logistics, from negotiating rates with transportation companies to dock scheduling. They used manual processes, which made it difficult to match time slots with shipping capacity and staffing.
The solution
In 2015, Bekaert group in the U.S. decided they needed to introduce Time Slot Management, to better manage the centralized transportation aspects of its business. All five manufacturing facilities are now using Transporeon's Time Slot Management. In addition, Bekaert is using Transport Assignment, which allows carriers to do perpetual bidding, as managing prices and tendering using the No-Touch process is so easy.
The results
Time Slot Management has significantly improved planning at Bekaert’s shipping facilities, allowing teams to efficiently manage dock schedules for the next day. Additionally, the flexibility of the time slots allows them to make adjustments to accommodate staffing and activity changes, on the fly. As a result, detention charges are easier to validate and sometimes easy to reject.
Compared to last year’s overall cost of freight, in terms of year over year spend, Bekaert has seen approximately 40% savings overall.
